HARVEST - THE MOST FULFILLING TIME OF THE YEAR

When the Vietnamese Highlands get cold and dry in November, it’s time to start harvesting! This is the hardest, yet the most fulfilling time of year for our farmers: after a whole year of planting, caring for and growing coffee, they literally get to pick the fruits of their labour.
As soon as the sun rises you can hear our farmers greeting each other, chatting happily while spreading canvases beneath the trees to catch the coffee beans. Harvest season can take up to about four months. Despite the long days and intense work, it’s a cheerful time at Belvico.

It all starts with top-quality beans

As with any fruit, coffee beans taste best when they are harvested at the right time and that is when the cherries on the trees are red. However, not all the cherries on the same coffeetree ripen at the same pace. To avoid harvesting a mix of over- and underripe beans, the farmer needs to use the selective picking method and not the faster and cheaper strip picking method. The latter is commonly used all over the world, including Vietnam.
You guessed it right: at Belvico we are striving for quality and that means we select and hand-pick only red and ripe beans leaving all unripe, yellow and orange cherries on the trees. During harvest we rotate through our plantation multiple times while keeping a close eye on each bean, only harvesting the ones that are up to our standards.
It’s a very time-consuming job, however, this method ensures that we only deliver pure and high-quality coffee.

How we make a difference

If our farmers have taught us anything, it is that cultivating coffee isn’t just a way to make a living, it’s their life. An art that has been passed on for many generations which we want to honour and respect.

Our vision for Vietnamese coffee

Because we know from experience how beautiful the taste of real Vietnamese coffee really is, we feel a bit sad about there being so much flavour enhanced coffees on the market. It’s our mission to create a future where everyone can fully appreciate a cup of pure, fine Vietnamese coffee, like Belvico offers.
Considering the high levels of quality and consistency we put into fertilizing, picking and harvesting, we believe that our beans have the potential to steal the hearts of coffee lovers beyond Vietnam!
It’s our dream to see people all around the world enjoying a delicious cup of pure Belvico coffee of which the smell, taste and feel reflects the love our farmers have put into it.
